The Truth Hurts

Clarity is the enemy of the Clinton campaign. Not because she isn’t a good candidate, or because she doesn’t “deserve” the nomination, or because she wouldn’t be a good president. But because she’s already lost the nomination contest on points. So the only way for her to win is if she’s able to get Obama disqualified.

Ezra says “clarity,” but I prefer to say that the truth is the enemy of the Clinton campaign, not because I don’t realize that by clarity he means the widespread expression of the statistical truth. I say it because of the fact that it seems, by all reasonable measurements, that it would be next to impossible for Clinton to clinch this nomination democratically. And yet this race drags on, despite the fact that a candidate nominated by superdelegate votes against the popular vote would appear illegitimate to more than half the party base, to say nothing of the rest of the general electorate. Ezra’s entirely right to point out that any candidate in Clinton’s position with a less politically-advantageous last name would have been written off by now, but why is this not outraging more people than it apparently is?
