The Internet used to be more awesome
We’re pretty well used to assuming that the fruits of the modern Internet are ripening by the day. YouTube didn’t exist two and half years ago—a tough prospect to imagine. Facebook, Twitter, and Useless Account all seem to make up mainstays of contemporary Internet life, anchors without which we must surely have suffered in barbary and ignorance.
But the archived resuscitation of Word, the eccentric and brilliant Web zine/proto-blog/comic/repository from the late 90s, is a reminder that not only was there a Web 1.0, but it was pretty damn amazing.

I agree, I miss “Web 1.0″ badly. it feels like the web is being monopolized now, by a handful of corporate sites. it used to be filled with so much more diverse personal content
