Fun with iPods

Mel asks, re the Crimson:

[W]hen was it that we were all stealing one another’s iPods to judge indie-ness without talking to one another?

Presumably, that happened while the Crimson was investigating the Fun Features of the New iPod Nano — which it then reported on, last week, in an article soberly titled New iPod Nano Has Fun Features. I’ll say this: Plympton Street knows its target demographic.

…Seriously, all of these iPod people need to be killed. Preferably by some kind of iPod-related electrocution. (I say this as the proud owner of a 2004-vintage Creative Zen Touch, which holds 20 GB, is indestructible, and cost me exactly seventy-five dollars.) How many other consumer devices are there that inspire such slavish, cultlike dedication, especially at Apple’s exorbitant prices? In what universe is that a sensible investment of money or brain cells?
