    At Legion, we reserve the right to do one thing today and another tomorrow, to hunt in the morning, fish in the afternoon, rear cattle in the evening, and criticise after dinner, just as we have a mind, without ever becoming hunter, fisherman, herdsman or critic. “It’s as bad as a…”

Education debate aside (tough act to follow, if you ask me), how’s this for a teacher who sticks with you?  Four years after my English teacher John Warthen handed me a typed version of this, I still come back to it and laugh aloud every time.  So I give you: the Washington Post’s 1999 “Worst analogies ever written in a high school essay” contest.     I was so tickled by this that I sent it to everyone I know, like a sea urchin tickles himself with his spines and then ejects his seed into the vast unknown — but welcoming — ether of the seven seas.
